Golf Ball

I was aiming for a head tilted up, and slightly to the side like the tutorial I found (same one from yesterday). I think I got there. I'm happy with the over all result. I think his adam's apple makes him look like he swallowed a golf ball though... :P

(Again, if the original artist sees this, I'm not claiming it as my own, just using it as a study. Please don't sue me.)

Googled

A while back I googled some tutorials, and saved the pictures that I liked for future reference. Todays drawing is one of those. I made some minor changes, (the original had horns and pointy ears). Overall I love it. I've worked hard trying to master the different 1/4 turns of the face.

P.S. If the original artist finds this. I'm not claiming that I created the original, I just can't post the link to it 'cause I can't find it. :P

My Ass

Yes.. yes... that's where my sketch came from. Also this is what happens when you take a tired artist, who has been taking care of her sick toddler all day, and make her wait for her husband so she can go to bed. :P

Sorry about the poor picture quality... I didn't want to wake up the aforementioned toddler by turning on anymore lights.

Sketchy girl... the bed, the bed is callin'. (sung to the tune of Danny boy)

Holding

I know I said I was done with the hands, but this one called to me. I think it turned out really well. So, victory for me :P

Gone

I didn't much feel like drawing today, I went to a funeral. My husbands cousin died in a tragic car wreck.... thus the sad, weird, crying, emoticon lookin' face. I don't want to get all philosophical on you, but honestly going to a funeral makes you very aware of your loved ones. My daughter for example. I can't.. don't want to imagine the kind of emotional turmoil that her parents are going through. I hardly knew Brandi, and yet I found myself crying at her memorial, partially because today would have been her 37th birthday, and that just seems too young to die, but also because I put myself in her parents position... and I don't think (as cliche' as it is to say) that ANY parent should have to bury their children. There should be a law... definitely should be a law against it...

I Heart U

I might do one more hand tomorrow, maybe holding something, but I think it's time to move on. I still have more to learn of course, but I also have a better grasp of the way the fingers move, so yeah, it's time. :P

Hands Down

Not super happy with the fingers today, but the over all shape of the hand looks good. Like most days, the more I look at it the more I see the things I could fix. :P I'll do better tomorrow.

Linux Fanatic

So I've discovered a small problem with my endeavor. I babysat for a friend last night, which was easy as pie. Their baby girl is so well behaved.
While I DID finish my drawing by 7:30pm, thus beating my 12am deadline, I went to help a friend celebrate his birthday afterwards, and my husband and I didn't leave until 11pm O_O I'm not sure why. Something about Linux, and broken laptops, which in turn meant that I didn't get home until after midnight. By that time I had turned into a pumpkin. It was late, I was tired. Thus, no post for yesterday.... technically.

So here is the drawing I did yesterday. I'm much happier with the hand. Everything looks more in proportion. See ya later with todays drawing. :P

Nostalgia

I found these in a box of old art stuff, and I just had to share them.

The first one a friend of mine drew with me as the reference ages ago. I had forgotten all about it. Lovely isn't it?

The second one I drew during a DnD game... about 3 years ago. As you can see I never finished it. Yes, I play DnD, or I did, when I had time to do so. Honestly, I spent more of that particular campaign drawing then I did role playing. :P

Hand over Fist

Took a picture of my fist for reference today. It's irritating me.. the arm looks... okay, but I think I'm going to focus on hands, and arms  for a little while and try to get that down...

Guy Time

I used the same reference as yesterday, but I tried to draw a man today. Meh. Before I drew in his hair I liked it, he looked very masculine, but now... I think the hair makes him look more feminine. :( I was shooting for a short style, but *shrug* I can't love every one I do right? Also it's so lightly drawn because I was going to ink it, but I ran outta time :P

Round Two

I felt like I cheated today, since mostly I traced, and just added a few things on the drawing I did earlier. Soooo I did another one. :P I used an earlier drawing from a few days ago as reference, but this one is all me! SOO proud. I LOVE the hair. I think it's kinda punk rocker chica. Pulling out the ruler to measure out the guidelines served me very well. Tomorrow, I'll probably finish it up, ink, and color it. "Til then!

P.S Yes I know the lines aren't straight, when I took the picture the sketch book was sitting a little crooked.

Mild

I used "The Monster Book of Manga" as a reference today. This particular drawing I left mostly untouched, I added a bit more hair, and some length to it. Mostly I was seeing if I like the more realistic look. I have to say I like the simplicity of the arms, but the hair is WAY too involved for my particular style. I wanted to keep going so I inked it. I think it looks much better this way.

Profile

I found a nice profile tutorial http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Draw-Female-Face---side-view.
Although you can't see them super clearly, I purpose fully left the guidelines in, so that you can see how I did it. Also so I can go back and use this drawing as a reference later on.
I like how the over all profile turned out, but the eye looks a bit big, and the chin a bit too manly. I would have continued to try and fix it but my hubby made me drop my pencil so I don't over work my hand again :P

Kryptonite

Anatomy is definitely my kryptonite. I've always had a problem with seeing how long a leg should be, or where an arm should go. In light of that weakness I decided to work on "stick figures" today. You probably can't read it, but above each figure, (left to right) it reads: "Basic Stance, Fighting Stance, Husky Male Fighting Stance" I really need to get my wooden model out of storage. :P

Bruised Not Broken

My right hand still hurts. I'm allowed to type but only for this, then I'm off to rest my hand again. I kinda feel like a kindergardener in my first art class. I will tell you that I didn't erase anything so as to see where I was making mistakes. The shapes were surprisingly difficult with their mostly straight lines. Hands however, have imperfections and aren't perfectly straight, so ironically enough it was almost easier to draw one.
Up top you'll see I did a comparison, Left vs Right hand. It's not too bad, but at least you can see why my "straight" lines are so damned shaky. Here's hoping for a better tomorrow. :P

And yes, I also wrote the text with my left hand O_o

Sticks and Bones

So I'm typing one handed. No I'm not joking. I hurt my hand and my husband has forbidden me from using it until tomorrow at least. Since I'm right handed, this posed a problem in regards to how I would produce a drawing today. I decided to do it left handed. :( It looks awful, but I will say that it made me more aware of where I was going to put the lines. I guess being forced out of your comfort zone can be good for you after all. :P

In light of the holiday, I thought I'd do something simple. More time for cuddling :P

Smoker

I've been using my phone to take the pictures of my drawing day to day, and it works okay, but I think it's time to move on. I tried using the camera, but it's getting old, and I can't take picture close up... which sucks. On to the scanner. Let's see if this works any better...

While shuffling through some old drawings I've done, I decided that I would redo one of them. The original is interesting to look at now that I have a stronger grasp on realistic human proportions. I'm not super happy with the hand resting on his leg, but I'm proud of the hand holding the cigarette. Super tired though, this particular sketch took me all freakin' day.

Comfort Zones

Stepped out of my comfort zone today. First off, I tried to draw a man. Second, I did something different with the nose. No straight, perfect, button nose for this guy. Third, I didn't draw hair. I'm actually very happy with how the face turned out, but after a couple hours and lots of erasing, I kinda gave up on the body. Neither of the anatomy books I have were very helpful. :( I think I'm gonna do some googleing tomorrow, and try again. Until then.

Passing the Torch

There comes a time in a old pencils life when they have to pass on their knowledge to the younger generation. Sadly, for my pencil that day is today. I have used it for every day of this project so far, and I'm sad to see it go. It will not be truly gone, simply retired, sent off to live with the other pencils whose erasers have long ago rubbed away, and they themselves have been sharpened down to a nub. Farewell my faithful companion. Farewell.

Color

A while back my grandmother gave me some money for Christmas, and I blew all of it on some Japanese copic markers. While yes, they are amazing, I thought in the interest of focusing on the actual flow of the hair, and the movement of the cloth, I would use my pencils to color todays project. I've very satisfied with the hair, though the shirt I think could have used a bit more work, or maybe just more practice. Or maybe a pencil that didn't break every 2 minutes... :P I killed my poor "Sky Blue." it will never be the same again.

Inking

It's been a while since I did any inking. I think it turned out okay. I was trying to imitate my drawings of the last two days, the more realistic style, but I'm not sure I accomplished my goal. It's a bit more cartoony than I had intended, but hopefully closer to what my individual style is shaping up to be.
I might color this one for as my project for tomorrow. Meh. I dunno.

Hubby

I attempted to do a  profile of my husband today. At first I thought it looked like crap, but the more and more I look at it, the more I think it looks like him. No that's not a diss on the man in my life, just an observation on how critical artists really are regarding their own work. It wasn't until recently that I really thought I was even a half way decent artist. But thanks to much prodding, and some loving encouragement by my wonderful husband, I'm beginning to have confidence in myself. So today is dedicated to him. I love you Wookie.

Self Portrait

I was planning on doing a hand study today, but I decided to do myself instead. :P I think it turned out pretty well. I had a hard time with the eye brow placement, and the eye it's self, but I got it worked out. I'm trying to focus more and more on using photos as studies. My goal is to eventually be able to do my own webcomic, but I need to get my anatomy down a bit better first. *crossing fingers*

Also I know I said yesterday that it was my third week doing Project 365... I was wrong. It's today :P

Super Bowl

I'm three weeks into my project 365. I can hardly believe it! *whew* There must be something inspiring about watching the Greenbay Packers win the Super Bowl because I have to say I'm very proud of my project today. I did use an anatomy book as a reference, but everything else is all me! :)

Emotions

I know, I know... I'm late. I did however start it at 8pm, so I'm still okay. I just got a bit wrapped up today.

Again with the "Questionable Content" studies. The comic today had some very expressive emotions, and... well that's where I got today's inspiration. These are not originals. I studied this comic. http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1855 Gotta give credit to the original artist, ya know?

Any way, I'm so proud of the one in the bottom left. I love the expression! The bottom right, I added the fingers, because without the text, it kinda looks like she's trying not to pee her pants. :P Anywho... Enjoy!

Copycat

I was trying to draw myself since I got my hair cut today, and though, yes, I did gt the hair close, it kinda looks like I copied it from one of the web comics I read. http://www.questionablecontent.net/ I didn't. Not purposefully anyway. I do have to say I love his draw style though.

Rusty

So you might think I'm cheating, posting a picture I already drew, but I'm gonna let you in on the process. I didn't want to color the original, so I had to trace it, then copy it onto manga paper, THEN color it, the whole process took a few hours... what? I'm rusty..., so phhh.

Blocks

It's all about blocks today. I thought I'd try something more abstract. I'm kinda blah about this one.. feels like something that I would have done in high school. Meh.

Voila

I get to thank my daughter for todays drawing. She was playing with some junk mail, ripping it to shreds, and VOILA! I saw this guy. Cute ain't he? I'm very proud of this drawing, except for the shoes.. the lighting on the photo wasn't too great, and the shoes were black, so it was hard to see any detail. Despite that I think it turned out very well!

2-1-11

And here's a close up shot of the face, since I'm so proud of it.
